STUDENTS DEBATE NATIONAL VALUES AND PRINCIPLES AHEAD OF SONA 2024

On 15th March 2024, the Republican President is set to give the State of the Nation Address –#SONA on the progress made in the application of National Values and Principles-#NVPs.

On 1st March 2024, #VSI and #YDA engaged students from selected schools in Lusaka district to present arguments and counterarguments on topics such as patriotism and national unity, good governance and integrity, democracy and constitutionalism among others.

Throughout the debate, participants highlighted the importance of instilling national values in students and members of the society to foster a sense of belonging and unity within our nation, Zambia. They emphasized the role of education, family, and community in transmitting these values to future generations.

Learners further appealed to the Office of the Vice President OVP Department of National Guidance and Religious Affairs to explore ways of making National Values and Principles a stand alone subject for increased knowledge and awareness on the importance of #NVPs.

The debate was officiated by Mr. Godfrey Kaoma, Assistant Director of National Guidance and Religious Affairs Office of the Vice President-#OVP, and attended by Senior National Guidance Officers, participating school representatives, VSI and VSI Executive Members, Debate Matrons/Patrons among others.

The debate was organized by the Visionary Students Initiative-#VSI, and Youth-Led Development Alliance-#YDA with support from the Office of the Vice President-OVP Department of National Guidance and Religious Affairs.
