VSI SPEAKS AT THE CAVENDISH UNIVERSITY 2024 MENTAL HEALTH SEMINAR

On invitation by the Cavendish University Zambia Students’ Union, the Visionary Students Initiative-VSI has delivered a speech on available legal and policy frameworks to tackle substance abuse, and addressing mental health issues among the youth and students.

As highlighted in the 2023 National Drug and Substance Control Policy, #VSI has submitted that Zambia has continued to record increased numbers of young people abusing drugs and substances in spite of the efforts of various stakeholders towards combating illicit drug and substance abuse. The country has transformed from being a mere transit point for illicit drugs to a consumer of drugs such as cocaine and heroin.

VSI believes that the abuse of illicit drugs and substances has a negative impact on the students, their families and communities resulting in family break-down, loss of time, money and income earning opportunities.

Through Public Policy Advocacy, VSI is mentoring students to be responsible and productive members of society for sustainable national development and economic growth. On platforms such as the CUZ Mental Health Seminar, VSI engages audiences on the negative effects of substance abuse, mental health wellness, and community service for improved health and civic participation in national growth.
