No Child Belongs to the Streets Advocacy Campaign

The Visionary Students Initiative`s “No Child Belongs to the Streets” advocacy campaign is focused on influencing policy direction on children`s affairs in Zambia and driving awareness around streetism at the local, and national levels.  The ultimate goal is to take children off the streets and make sure of it that they do not return to the streets.

The campaign aims at bringing together all feasible and practical inter-sectoral allies to develop an ideal exist strategy and demand for speedy passage of Zambia`s Children`s Code Bill. The campaign also seeks to raise awareness on the promotion and protection of children`s rights in Zambia.

To ensure efficient service delivery of the campaign, VSI has partnered with the Government of the Republic of Zambia through the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services, Department of Child Development. The role of the government is to provide policy guidance among others. Other partners include Creative artists, individuals, the private sector, and Non-state Actors.

One of the major outcomes is to influence and support the development of a national street children strategy at the governmental level, which:

  1. defines the objectives to be pursued with regard to children with street connections
  2. defines roles and tasks of different stakeholders
  3. ensures funding of projects and services
  4. defines steering and case management of children on the street as well as those attached to childcare facilities at the state level
  5. facilitates the establishment of transparent and strong monitoring systems to ensure the quality of services offered
